Department of History

Vision:

  • To produce professional historians committed to the highest levels of historical scholarship.
  • To allow students to develop their historical research skills including archival work and primary source documents.
  • To provide the theoretical and interdisciplinary training in context to historical heritage, public museums and the media, archaeology and policy of historical heritage, historical urban studies.
  • To emphasize learners for a comparative understanding of historical process.

Mission:

  • To ensure to enrich the learners’ interest  history knowledge stronger and look forward for a career in it.
  • The programme targets the teachers working in Schools, personnel working in various institutions associated with history and culture (Museums, Archives, and Archaeological Survey etc.), working people in various organisations and all graduates who are desirous to pursue their career in History.

Goals:

  • Learner will have fair understanding about historical events, processes,and patterns.
  • Will be able to provide evidence of sophisticated awareness of the interrelationship of the human experience and historical perspective.
  • Will be able to demonstrate the importance of historical topics with reference to broader historical context, historiographic trends, or contemporary relevance of historical studies.
  • A learner will have the ability to construct original historical arguments based on primary source material for research.

Objectives:

Program objective for History learners that is taught over Semesters 1 to 4 span the growth of Human civilization in the World in general and the Indian subcontinent in particular Meso America, Australia and the African continents are not in its purview while the history of Europeans are followed closely. The intended outcome is to provide the students with an idea of how and when the Homo sapiens emerged as one specie and how this specie evolved in stages to produce the History of the Human civilization as we know it today. Relevance is undeniable, not only for students of History but all informed people since it is only through learning about past that we can make sense of the present. Graduate students of History Honours can follow up their learning trajectory by joining the Post-graduation courses at various Universities and Ph.D. or equivalent courses thereafter. If they want to join the job market, various administrative positions in Government and Corporate are best suited for them. They can teach at various levels and undertake any other responsibilities that involve Human resources. The discipline of History prepares the learners for various eventualities in life through lessons drawn from the past. Also, while offering the Bachelor and Master degree programme, it is made sure that the objects is aligned with the larger objectives of the University as mentioned below:
Masters Degree:

  • The Masters degree Programme is aligned with the objectives of the University Act under Chapter II. Establishment and incorporation of the University under the objectives of University “4.1.k-to provide suitable post graduate courses of study and promote research”.
  • The Masters degree Programme aligned with the objects of the University Act under Chapter-II, Establishment and incorporation of the university under clause 5.1 power of the university under 5.1. (i-xxvi)- to conduct coordinate, supervise, regulate and, control post-graduate teaching and research work in the university.

Bachelors Degree:

  • The Bachelor's Programme is aligned with the objectives of the University Act under Chapter II. Establishment and incorporation of the University under the objectives of University "4.1.k-to provide suitable post graduate courses of study and promote research".
  • The bachelor's Programme aligned with the objects of the University Act under Chapter-II, Establishment and incorporation of the university under clause 5.1 power of the university under 5.1. (i-xxvi)- to conduct coordinate, supervise, regulate and, control post-graduate teaching and research work in the university.
